Caio!

My family has always been extremely close, with partners included; we are usually a group of 13. I see my Nonnies at least once a week, and when I was little, I would go up there every single Saturday as my mum had to work. We all live 10 minutes away from each other, which again enforces just how close we are. We are a walk-in and don’t knock family. The front doors are always open, and we will drop by unannounced, or within 5 minutes after calling to see if you’re home.

My family has always been something I wanted to show my friends. Every family event, whether it was a dinner or a casual lunch, I always wanted to bring my friends to show them just how magical a Rulla event is. And this is the point of Stories Over Spaghetti. I want to show you my family, tell you our stories, share our recipes, answer any of your questions and bring you into a world of love, pasta and a little madness.

My Nonna is also starting to get dementia, and I want to be able to chronicle everything so I will always know her stories. Our Italian heritage and traditions have always been something that interested me. Even as a little girl, I dreamed of going to see where my Nonna and Nonno grew up, and luckily enough, I was able to do that last year (2024). I met my Nonna’s sister, who still lives in Italy, and she told me about their life as children as we walked around their very first house in Castelfranco (Pictures are in the 'Photo Album').

Stories Over Spaghetti is a big Italian family, talking at the dinner table and swapping stories from the good old days. When Nonna was always cooking, Nonno was out in his shed hammering away, the mums were inside helping Nonna, and the dads were cooking the meat while we kids ran around getting into all sorts of mischief. It is a place for family, food and favourite tales, where questions are meant to be asked and the past is told in a way that makes you feel like you were right back there.  

So, I officially invite you to join our Rulla stories, take a seat at the table and enjoy some delicious food, good wine and quality conversation. Make yourself at home, it’s the Italian way xx
